There's no question that 2000 is the 'year of the RPG', especially for PlayStation fans. Among upcoming or existing titles on the market such as Legend of Mana, Chrono Cross, and Wild Arms 2, Sony sets out to make their niche from the established pioneers with Legend of Dragoon.

As RPG's raise the bar overall in artistic presentation, graphic innovations and new depths of gameplay, Dragoon steps in as a game which looks to emulate each of these aspects to a tee. Based on the preview footage I has the pleasure of viewing simply left me in awe. Spanning a 4-disc compilation, 'Dragoon' displays extraordinary graphics, superior sound, mezmerizing theatric cinematics, and what certainly looks to be a very in-depth, driven story which will make the Legend of Dragoon a memorable experience for all gamers who embrace it.

The story...

The legend is that all that lives are born from the Divine Tree. Dragons, Humans and the Winged Ones are among them. The Humans won their freedom from the Winged Ones when they learned to harness the spiritual forces of the Dragons, transforming themselves into Dragons. For 10,000 years thereafter, there is tranquil co-existence between all. Until now...

Taking on the role of a Dart, young adventurer who goes out in search of the Black Demon to destroy and thus avenge his loved ones. During his quest, Dart will have many encounters, including coming to the aid of his childhood friend Shana. It's up to you to help Dart reach the Black Demon and restore order to the land.

The Legend of Dragoon features a unique and innovative combat system, entitled "Additional". This battle function allows up to eight consecutive attacks to be used against an opponent in one sequence. Along with 650 pre-rendered backgrounds, making for a very diverse set of battle enviroments, you'll witness a variety of special effects as characters engage each other in battle. In addition, Legend of Dragoon will feature an very immersive degree of gameplay, which with its keen development system, will give players a genuine sense of complexity and depth. Taking note of the graphic level of detail and extravagance, LoD truly delivers in its manner of storytelling with well over 40 minutes of cinematic sequences and offering gamers over 80 hours of involving gameplay. To add additional gaming value, abilities will allow you to transform into Dragons; while battle sequences allow up to nine selectable characters (all which you can control), each possessing their own unique abilties.
